Hello, I'm Jay.
A finance leader of 35+ years who'd rather help you make one good decision than hand you another beautiful report.

Thirty-five years of numbers. One conclusion.
I graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in accounting in 1988, and I've spent every year since in and around finance, across the public, private, and government sectors.
The longest chapter was nearly fourteen years at Gogo Business Aviation, where I started as a Senior Financial Analyst and worked my way up through Manager, Director, and Senior Director of FP&A, to Vice President of Finance, and then Vice President of Accounting and Corporate Controller. I finished as Vice President of Finance Transformation, rebuilding how a company plans, reports, and decides. Before Gogo I held finance roles at Dot Hill Systems, Storage Technology, and Sun Microsystems.
In December 2024 I left to start this practice. Transformation work is what convinced me: the businesses that most needed that kind of thinking weren't the ones with a finance department. They were the owner-operators doing it alone.
I've built the forecasts, run the closes, sat in the board meetings, and made the calls: at every level from analyst to the controller's chair. And after all of it, I keep arriving at the same conclusion: most owners don't have a revenue problem. They have a decision problem dressed up as a spreadsheet.
The reports were never the point. What changes a business is the moment an owner can look at their own numbers and know, with confidence, what to do next.
The operator's CFO.
Big companies have a whole finance department translating numbers into strategy. Owner-operators usually have a bookkeeper, a CPA at tax time, and a gut feeling. That gap is where good businesses stall, and it's the gap I built Aligned Impact to close.
I work alongside owners, not above them. That means plain English instead of jargon, a small number of decisions that actually move weight instead of a fifty-page deck, and a financial rhythm you can keep running after I'm gone.
The same thinking drives the HOA side of the practice. Boards and treasurers are volunteers handling six- and seven-figure decisions with no finance training. They don't need to be talked down to. They need the numbers made clear enough to act on and defend.
Numbers should be a tool, not a tyrant. What I bring to the table.

When I'm not in the numbers.
You'll most likely find me on the lake with my wife, out on the boat, or in the kitchen cooking for the people I love: especially my award-winning seafood gumbo.
I also speak and coach on leadership and human connection under my own name. If that's the side of my work you're looking for, it lives at jayboykin.com.

The one you've been avoiding because you're not sure the numbers will back you up. That's the conversation worth having.
